How to make beaded bookmark

These are some basic instructions and photographs for how to make one of the beaded bookmarks that we make at the jewellery making parties. I have kits available for sale on my website.

Tools you need:

* pliers - flat nose

* scissors or fine wire cutters

* crimps 

* bookmark

* tigertail wire

* charm

* beads

Instructions:

1. Empty beads onto handtowel to stop the beads from rolling away
   • leave the crimp and the bookmark to the side for now
2. Arrange your beads on the towel so you can see what sort of pattern you'd like to make before you start to thread them onto the wire
3. Once you're happy with the pattern you can thread the beads onto the wire (in the packs the charm has already been attached for you)
4. Make sure that the little folded over bit of wire near the charm is tucked into the first couple of beads (see image above)
5. When you've got all of the beads onto the wire youre ready to attach it to the bookmark.
6. Now is when you need your crimp & bookmark & flat-nosed pliers
   • after the last bead, put on your crimp
   • thread the wire through the loop in the bookmark & back down through the crimp
   • thread the end of the wire through the last couple of beads & pull on the end of the wire to take up the excess string on your bookmark (ask a parent for help if you need it with this part)
   • this is when we need our flat-nosed pliers - we use them to squish the crimp to make it totally flat ( this is what holds the 2 bits of wire together and secure so it doesn't come apart!)
   • snip off the excess wire using a paid of sharp scissors
